MCRI Advocacy

The objective of MCRI’s advocacy efforts is to improve the lives of children. We served from 2010- April 2014 as the Secretariat of Child Rights Coalition Malaysia (CRCM) and also advocate independently on a variety of issues.

Secretariat of Child Rights Coalition Malaysia (CRCM)

As Secretariat of Child Rights Coalition Malaysia, MCRI coordinates and provides administrative support for the activities of the Coalition. These activities include monitoring children’s issues in Malaysia, issuing media statements, and preparing write-ups on key issues.

One of the most important activities of Child Rights Coalition Malaysia is writing the NGO Alternative Report on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Secretariat is instrumental in conducting research, documenting cases and preparing the report which is submitted periodically to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in Geneva.

Other Advocacy Activities

At MCRI we believe in advocacy which is based on evidence. We conduct research as our own contribution to the NGO Alternative Report on the UN CRC. Through the platform of our Speaker Series, we foster research into issues related to children and youth.

We also participate in advocacy efforts as partners with other NGOs. We supported the Missing children campaign in May 2013 organised by Public Media Agency (PMA) and Asian Institute for Early Child Care and Education (AIECCE), and are a member of the global partnership Girls Not Brides. MCRI is also a member of the Migration Working Group representing the rights of children on the move.
